Take my advice, since it directly affects the cymbals, just do your best, we do NOT expect everyone to play perfect for their audition. In factm, just last year, (and this will involve many stories to come this year), we had grandpa, a 6th year senior TROMBONE player who NEVER marched a day in college past high school join cymbals and he turned out alright. Also, the triplet part will be more obvious once the line plays as a whole rather then nervous individuals. There won't be a metronome or anything at the audition to make sure you keep perfect timing, just try. The important part is to see how well you improve during the week.

yeah, I'm sure the cymbal stuff will all make alot more sense when we get there. I personally am having trouble figuring out the timing for c and e sections, but I'm also getting there a couple days early so I guess I'll have plenty of time to practice hands on then, cause I don't own marching cymbals. Its my first big audtion and I'm kinda worried but I'll just do my best and hopefully make the line or an alternate, its all good.

on that triplet measure, i don't really try to count the triplets and feel them in my head. i think of it more as play slightly before the beat for the note on the end of a triplet. i know that's probably not exact, but it's about the best i can do, and it makes it a lot easier to play. i'm really a terrible snare player, and any difficult rythums like that are hard for me to feel. if we do our try outs like we did last year. i wouldn't worry so much about making it in on sun. if you show some potential, and it looks like you've practiced, you'll have a chance to prove yourself whether you can play everything or not. i mean seriously, we all saw how bad neal was last year. come on! he couldn't march in tempo. poor kid. pam was hitting him on the shoulder in tempo, hoping that he'd step on the beat.... we never could figure out how it was possible to play quarter notes and not march in tempo. also, i was looking at the packet, and i don't think pam said anywhere about practice before tryouts, but i'm sure that morning she'll have it all opened up and set up for people to get a chance to pactice in room 30.

alright. thanks for the vote of confidence. Yea, I'm' arriving at my dorm early sunday, so what exactly is the plan? (when I gotta check in, when's some practice time i can sneak in, etc. etc., or where can I find one of you to help me out... <like other guy, I don't own marching cymbals and need practice> ty.)
Also, is marking time during the audition optional? (obviously it would help if you could, but the at the point I'm at marching and playing, I won't be able to look presentable ^_^)

The plan is the initial meeting then auditions are at 1 pm, and we'll have the drums set up around 10:30-11 am for people to practice on. I don't think Pam has ever put any emphasis towards marking time for auditions, so I wouldn't worry about that. Basically get your stuff into the dorm as quickly as possible and come practice, then you can get advice from us old people too.

Joe is right, but there is a sign up of what order you audition, so just be aware of that. Also I believe the order of audition is snare, tenor, bass, cymbal. If I am wrong, then the tenor and bass order is switched.

at least since the audition is earlier we won't have to worry about the babies (freshman) above us in Elliot listening to orientation, band freshmen get the "real" treatment. Also Sarah, I expect you to take my cymbals out to lunch before their audition.

OH, I don't know if the freshmen get email from Pat yet, but if they didn't: there will be time to buy your books during a special "Afterhours" band party so don't go and buy your books the first day you get here. Awesome
END COMMUNCIATION (x2 since I forgot the last one)
