So what exactly is the audition pieces we have to have prepared? Is it all the music posted in the audition section? or is it just a certain cadence?
Thanks -Michael

Haggis is the only thing you need to prepare for the audition. You might still want to go through some of the other stuff so you're not overwhelmed during camp, but some of the stuff on the site we don't play anymore. All this will be more clear when you get your packet in the mail though, so I'd just focus on Haggis till then.

Your focus should definitely be on Haggis right now...however, for those of you who feel so brave as to move on, I'd take a look at Cletus too. Especially you guys auditioning for snare. Cletus has got some pretty tricky licks and will definitely still be in the sequence. Even though you don't have to know it for auditions. We will be playing that cadence during band week and of course the rest of the season! So practice hard!

Alright. Thanks. Since I'm trying out for cymbal, could I get some pointers? Such as what dose "half step" mean. For the split section what would I play, as one person? the whole rhythm? Also, what do I do for high hat chinks, and sizzle chinks. Also what are the markings on measure 14? is that the repeat previous measure marking? Finally, what tempo does Haggis go, as there are no markings for that.
Thanks, -Michael
P.S. everything but the accented notes are claps correct?

woooooo cymbals! you chose the right section! alot of your questions seem to be about decifering pam's writing... lol that "measure 14"... right after the split part on the first line isn't actually a measure, if there's extra space she crosses the measure out, so just ignore the last bit on the first line. that half step thing i think she means marching half time. on the split part, she'll tell you which part to play on that when you go in to audition, so just be able to play any of those. i think i remember someone saying something about it should be at 112 ish? i wouldn't worry too much about how fast you go. just be able to play it. as for how to play the different notes i'll tell you this: know how the rythums go and all that, there's practice for several hours before the auditions, just show up and ask someone. you won't be penalized if you aren't PERFECT. just do the best you can! the overlord is aa forgiving man.
here's the over view of what to do to prepare: 1. practice. especially during band camp. pam will cut you if you don't get your $h!t done. 2. have fun. we want fun people on the cymbal line. so dance around and shake it for the overlord. it will please him.
some optional things that might help: 3. slip pam a few bills. not sure if this one works yet, but it might. 4. bring sarah weise some gifts. perhaps food. she might put in a good word for you.
good luck!

Nice pointers there sarah!! I believe the goal for tempo is 116 but like Sarah said, don't worry about that too much. Just prepare the piece to the best of your ability and Pam will take care of the tempo part during band camp! Good Luck!!

sounds good. now i just hafta master this "marching half time" business. Pit training does not allow for good marching technique =P
also, play any part of that split means, 1 line is a different part right?

Actually marching half time is like taking one step for every 2 beats unlike regular marching which is a step for every beat. So basicly your feet are moving at half the pace, but the tempo is staying constant. Hope that helps.

As we can see, the cymbals grow stronger with each message reply, adding to my already omnipotent being. Soon, we will run things around here, and those who carry sticks will yield before my might.
