Hey everyone, I figured I'd start a thread and stick it on the top of here for discussion about the audition music....questions or comments. It's definately a little different then anyone around here (or in this country) is used to, but I think it'll be pretty cool.
One thing Pam told me, that she didn't put on the music, is that we'll probably march this at about 116 bpm instead of the usual 124, which will give the snares an easier time with some of their licks and make it sound more authentic.

So I've been reading Pam's excuse for music for several years and consider myself pretty comfortable with interpreting the craziness. However, this thing about "hit 'folded' sticks in left hand" has totally thrown me off. If anyone's got a better idea than me...I'd be glad to hear it!

wow, "Pam's excuse for music", that's pretty harsh, how do you think the music feels about you saying that.

Just to clarify, because you all know how much i love Pam by "excuse for music" i did not mean the actual music but the writing of the music. we all know how hard it is to read her hand written caligraphy sometimes so it was a simple question. Please excuse any harshness that came out of that statement and know that I don't in any way have negative feelings about the music. Haggis is freakin sweet! Just not sure about her notation sometimes...

I think we all knew what you meant, at least those of us who have seen her writing before. The band department needs to invest in a summer intern who's a wizard at Finale. As for your 'folded left hand smack' you could do what I always did when she wrote something in parenthesis that I didn't understand: Make it an audible!! We've had stuff like 'ormin' be an audible, when she just wanted us to hit 'on rim'...but it's much more fun that way.
